Walking in Winter

Saturday, we got a day off from the frigid temperatures here in Quebec, so I was able to stay outside for more than 5 minutes at a time. I went for a drive in the country and spotted three snowy owls along these country roads. I would call that an afternoon well spent.

South Pacific

Hanalei Bay on Kauai's north shore may very well be the most beautiful bay in the world. This is where we swam while it poured rain, soaked in the gorgeous light at sunset and sunrise, and ate a fabulous meal at Tahiti Nui, a tiki restaurant in the town of Hanalei.

A Foggy Encounter in a Green Land

"Iceland is green and Greenland is ice." So how did Iceland get it's name? Flóki Vilgerðarson was one of the first Norwegian Vikings to settle the country. After a good summer, but having poorly prepared for winter and desperate for the arrival of spring, he climbed a high mountain for a better view of the surroundings. In the distance, he saw a fjord full of ice. He called the fjord Isafjordur (Icefjord) and gave the country a new name 'Island' (Iceland).

Winter blues

Instead of resisting winter, I'm embracing it's quiet beauty. At least for today.

"Winter uses all the blues there are.
One shade of blue for water, one for ice,
Another blue for shadows over snow.
The clear or cloudy sky uses blue twice-
Both different blues."
- Robert Francis
