One of the main reasons I went to the south of France earlier this year, was to photograph the white horses of The Camargue. They are an ancient breed of horse that has lived in this wild, harsh marsh region for centuries if not thousands of years. I had the chance to spend three days among these beautiful creatures. The first day, I had the chance to get close to them and get to know them. They quickly adapted, were quite curious, and when I wasn't looking, would come up to me and start nibbling my shoe or knee. As a result, I have quite a few wide-angle shots of horse noses. Despite the nibbling, I was taken with how gentle they were and I felt no fear being so near to them. I'm so happy to finally be sharing some of these photographs with you.

Pure Beauty!
wow, these are stunning
These are so very gorgeous, Irene! I was wondering at the top of the post what the story was on these horses, and I enjoyed hearing how you got to know them and how they interacted with you. Sounds like a fantastic experience.
Beautiful horses and photos
so beautiful and magical!
What beautiful images, and what a special experience. Applause and awe (:
Breathtakingly beautiful!
Horses are the symbol of
strength and beautiful
combined, and YOU have
captured that so well here.
You inspire me!
Wow, beautiful images
These are really great images Irene. I really like the one where the horse is sort of hiding out in the grass. It portrays the shyness of this magnificent creature. Real nice job!! Keep on posting!!

They're really beautiful Irene! It must have been an amazing experience to spend time among them.
I think horses are some of the most beautiful creatures on earth, and you've captured these ones in such a way that showcases just that.
these photos are just absolutely fabulous. i come from france (but live in nz) so i am particularly drawn to them for this reason too. they remind me of home.

Extraordinary beauty!! I didn't know about the white horses in southern France..now I'm itching to go!!!
uplifting
many thanks from down under
Camargue horses! These are such beautiful photographs. I was quite horse-obsessed when I was younger, and I would devour 300-paged books on horse breeds. Unfortunately, I had to give up riding to focus on dance. I haven't been riding in months, and I miss the smell, the feel, the grace of horses so much.
I would love to know how you process your photos. I'm in love with your photo processing style.
They are truly beautiful creature...
Oh my!! Ok Now I see these are in France- disregard my more recent question about them being in Virginia! These are beautiful creatures!! You captured their spirits and a great feeling of being free.
Beautifully stunning. I'm in awe.
