Marie Antoinette Part I: The Palace

Have you seen Sofia Coppola's film Marie Antoinette? Some people loved it and some hated it. I'm firmly in the loved it camp. I found it to be a refreshing interpretation of a historical figure, unlike I'd seen before in film. I loved the look and sound (what a soundtrack!) of it. It's youthful energy is perfectly suited to the subject, who, afterall, was a mere fourteen years old when she first moved into the palace of Versailles. As told through the eyes of that young girl who becomes queen, it's a brilliant personal "history of feelings" as opposed to a "history of facts" as Kirsten Dunst put it. I couldn't help but think of that movie as I strolled through the rooms of Versailles last May.

One of my favorite movies... the "blue room" drove me crazy trying to duplicate that color blue in my cafe... I had it painted 4 times! Eventually I gave up... love your work Irene! xo

It's amazing how like the film the pops of color and design are. I really had no idea it was like that! So going there someday!

Oh I love that movie too! You've captured Versailles so perfectly. Even prettier in your photos than it is person! Minus the crazy crowds ;-)

Ooooh yes I am firmly planted in the love camp of Marie Antoinette too. I love the colours, the costumes, the FOOD - the overall eye candy of that film just makes me want to explode. I really loved how she mixed a modern day soundtrack with it too, it really does have a fresh and youthful feeling to it. Your photos are wonderful (as always) and a complete dream :)
