Fairytale of New York

Let me tell you about that first night I spent in New York. We arrived late in the afternoon to the most gorgeous fog. I had to hold myself back from just leaving the car on some midtown avenue and running out into the streets with my camera. We arrived at the hotel, parked the car, and gulped down some sandwiches. There were only about 90 minutes left before sunset, so we nearly ran to Central Park, which, thankfully, was close to our hotel. [This is where I have to thank the partners of photographers who have to put with this kind of thing when they kindly agree to come along on these trips.]

New York City, and particularly Central Park, is perfectly enchanting in the fog. And as the evening progressed, it got more and more magical as the sky turned from pale gray to a gorgeous pinky-purple. We stayed in the park until after sunset and then ventured out into the streets for some night photography and a well-deserved glass of wine. I felt so contented that I would have been happy even if I didn't get to take another photograph the remainder of our stay. But, of course, that didn't happen ...

P.S. I'm having trouble deciding on my favorite of the last two shots (the taxi cab lights). If you prefer one over the other, let me know. It'll help me decide which to make available as a print in my shops.

Hello Irene!

I didn't find an email to contact you. I follow your blog for a few weeks because I found a lovely pics from Cinque Terre. Some days ago, I found some other of the city of my dreams, New York, and today again. I can't stop to look at them, are amazing

I write a blog that talks about NY, and today you and your pics are my main character. I had to show your pics to my followers.

Thanks a lot, and please, keep doing this great job

kisses

These are just divine! Making me look at NYC in a totally different way.
Of the two taxi images, I definitely prefer the first, with the one cab in focus.

Hi :)

I found this photo blog when I was surfing the net looking for a Canadian photographer a while ago.

I live in Toronto since 1990. I just started to take a lot of photos about a year ago with my P&S compact camera and dreaming about getting a DSLR camera one day. I have my photo blog but it is written in Japanese. (With my setting, people can leave a comment only in Japanese.)
I liked your photos so much that I introduced this blog URL to my blog friends on March 21st.

I have never been to NY. Thank you for the beautiful photos!

About the taxi, I like the second one! I think it has more depth. I just like the front bokeh a lot.

I've never really had the notion to go to NY,
however, seeing it in a completely new
light here through your photos make me
want to book a flight ASAP, preferably on
a foggy late afternoon. These pictures are
gorgeous! When I think of New York, I think
of taxis, this is why I choose the taxi shot
for sure. Although, it was definitely a tough
decision.

I like the first taxi photo because the tilt shift effect makes them look like toy cars.

I prefer the first of the cab photos; the one with the cars in focus. And by golly, Irene. Your work only ever gets better. The way you see the world really, really moves me. I wish I had your eye!

A fairytale indeed! I feel like i get to go on a mini trip to my favorite places through your eye. So beautiful, you capture the magic of place!
I was immediately struck by the 1st cab photo. the cabs are trickling forth like a jewel necklace and i like the mystery of the buildings behind.
just beautiful!

The very first photo in the series is by far my favorite. Love it! As for the two at the bottom, again it's the first one that attracts me the most. Probably because it has a warm feel to it.

Every time I go to NYC I have to run to keep up with my family. Never enough time for photography. You help me to see what I'm missing. Isn't fog the best?!

I'm a big fan of your photographs and eye. You seem to know how to capture fog, I'm still working on that. I prefer the second one because I like the glowing lights on the taxi cabs. It gives it a warm romantic soft feel to the scene.
